TIP - When Ordering a Dell from their Website, You Can Ask for a Discount!
Main Post:
I just wanted to let any people who were buying a new product that you can always go onto livechat and ask for a discount on any product. When I bought my XPS 13 9360 last year with i7-8550U, I first asked for a discount and they were able to lower the price by 300 dollars for me!
So just remember, the worst they can say is no!

What did you exactly say to get a discount??
It's hard to believe that you could just say, "Can have discount plz boss" and actually get it

Pretty Good Stacking on Dell’s Website Using Rakuten and Amex Offers
Main Post: Pretty Good Stacking on Dell’s Website Using Rakuten and Amex Offers
Top Comment: Definitely skip if you’re not interested in using offers. You can stack the absolute crap out of Dell right now. Rakuten has a Dell offer that is currently doing 15% cashback on essentially everything. Dell is also offering 10% off if you have a student email attached to the account for monitors. In addition to that Dell is offering 9% back in Dell rewards for purchases during their Black Friday event. Amex gave me a $50 off $250 purchase about a month ago. I decided to use it on an OLED monitor that was $699.99. My other credit card outside of Amex has a 5% quarterly bonus that I can pick and I chose electronic stores. This credit card also has an additional 5% reward that I added to the card as well. So I charged $260 to the Amex and the rest to the other card. My breakdown is this: Amex - $50 off Rakuten - 629.99*0.15 = $94.50 Other CC - 415.66*0.10 = $41.56 Student discount - 699.99*0.10 = $69.99 Dell Rewards: 629.99*0.09 = 56.70 Total in savings: $312.76
Best time to buy a Dell
Main Post:
My son has asked for a new laptop as he is in his last year of high school. Preferably a touch screen. Any advice what model would be ideal for students? And when would be the best time to purchase one? Black Friday?
Top Comment: Look for deals on the Latitude line. https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-laptops/scr/laptops/appref=latitude-product-line,2-in-1-or-detachable-form-factor?sortBy=price-ascending

Dell Discounts
Main Post:
Just in-case it’s useful to anyone else... if you’re ordering a Dell product (for example a certain U4025QW monitor that just came out), start a chat with their online helpdesk and ask if they can give you a discount code.
I just did this and saved myself a couple of hundred dollars. It took about twenty minutes to get through the process, but it was well worth my time.
(update) In hindsight, I did this from an account that I've used to place a couple of orders through Dell previously and provided evidence of different pricing on the Canadian website I was trying to order through vs the American website so those could also be factors in why this worked. Other commenters have said it hasn't worked for them, but in my opinion, it's still worth trying out.
It's a good practice to do this with anything you’re buying online from a specific retailer. Support people sometimes (not always) have access to promo/discount codes to close sales so I’m guessing that’s what happened here..

A "too good to be true" Latitude 5420 deal?
Main Post:
TLDR version: Got a sweet Lat. 5420 from a local start-up bankruptcy sale. Basically brand new. However it is "locked down" in windows and in the bios, etc. so I can't login to it, I can't wipe, it, etc.
No CD drive. USB ports are disabled in the Dell Bios and of course I don't have the Windows or Bios Admin passwords.
When I try to initiate a reinstall or reset to factory settings in Windows RE, that option doesn't exist (meaning somehow the ability to wipe the computer has been disabled as well in Windows RE).
So basically it's a really nice brick atm.
I haven't called Dell using the old service tag but should that be my next step or is that a dead end because the company is defunct?
Should I pull out the SSD and try to wipe it by connecting it to another computer and then reinstall it?
Spent a couple hundred bucks for a $2k laptop and I guess it was a risk but never thought they could be that locked down from the BIOS all the way to the Windows RE as well.
TIA.
